Alex is a master’s student at the University of Denver where he is studying clinical psychology with concentrations in trauma and global mental health. In his training, Alex has worked with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges including trauma, depression, anxiety, parenting, grief, life transitions, and disordered eating. Alex has worked across the lifespan, including youth, adolescents, adults, and families.
In his approach, Alex centers the therapeutic relationship, creating safety and space for clients to feel accepted for their honest and authentic selves. Additionally, Alex emphasizes our relationship with ourselves and our world, highlighting the interaction between ourselves with systems, culture, and our environments to create healthy connections. Considering the many factors that impact us, Alex utilizes an integrative mix of theories and approaches to therapy, including narrative, attachment, psychodynamic, somatic, and positive psychologies, to provide holistic psychological services.
Alex is also dedicated to providing culturally-responsive services to immigrant, refugee, and Latinx communities. He speaks fluent Spanish, intermediate Portuguese, and has served Latinx communities both in the United States and across Latin America.
Alex believes that therapy should be a collaborative, respectful, and nonjudgmental process, in which clients feel safe to show up authentically. Starting therapy can be a scary step to take, but it is one that shows immense strength and resilience.
