Training Program
Post-Doctoral Fellows
Birch Psychology holds post-doc fellow positions on the child and adult side of our practice, under the supervision of licensed clinicians. The program is primarily focused on professional development in the area of private practice, with specialized training in therapy and assessment (including options ranging from early childhood psychology & infant mental health, grief/loss, family therapy, and group therapy). Ideal candidates have interest in a career in private practice and may transition into a full-time position within the practice (if deemed appropriate). Didactic (special interest) training can be provided, as well as opportunities to provide supervision to current practicum students. In addition to individual supervision, the practice offers daily consultation meeting with other psychologists within the practice.

Master’s Students
Birch provides specialized training in trauma focused therapy with recently arrived individuals and families (new immigrants, asylee seekers). Specialized training includes grief/loss, trauma focused therapy and other areas of expertise.
We have an adolescent and adult track, as well as a generalist (child and adult) track. We offer biweekly didactic training on a variety of topics, as well as group consultation meetings, and further supervision/training by licensed psychologists and post doc fellows. Otherwise, supervision is provided on an individual basis by each clinician’s primary supervisor.
*please note Master’s Student interns from the DU IDP program will not have assessment training
Doctoral Students
Birch Psychology holds practicum/extern positions. These positions are generalist positions that offer specific training across the following areas of psychology:
General Child (incl. family systems training, parent consultation, play therapy, early childhood/infant mental health)
Adolescent Mental Health
General Adult (incl. grief & loss, trauma),
Generalist (across the life span)
Among other areas of expertise, all positions include psycho-educational, social/emotional and full battery assessment experience.
We offer biweekly didactic training on a variety of topics, as well as group consultation meetings, and further supervision/training by licensed psychologists and 2nd year post doc fellows. Otherwise, supervision is provided on an individual basis by each clinician’s primary supervisor.
Ideal candidates are advanced level students with course-completion in the areas of assessment (Psycho-Ed, IQ, etc.).

Training Tracks (Doctoral and Master’s Students)
General Child (Dr. Allen)
Modalities for this track include individual child therapy, family therapy, parent support (co-parenting support, parenting coaching/consultation, high conflict divorce, early childhood and infant mental health and play therapy. Presenting issues may range from generalized anxiety and depression to family systems issues, as well as neurodivergence. Both therapy and assessment services are a component of the training. Training exposure includes social/emotional assessment including projective (performance based) measures, learning/psycho-educational assessment, developmental assessment (including autism screening and potential exposure to more comprehensive developmental testing) and full batteries.
*Early childhood experience may be available depending on the availability of adjunctive supervision options.
Adult Track (Drs M. Badwan and Blimling)
Modalities for this track include individual teen therapy, individual adult therapy, couples therapy, and potentially adult family therapy. Presenting issues may range from generalized anxiety and depression to family systems issues, as well as neurodivergence. Both therapy and assessment services are a component of the training.
Due to the breadth of services at Birch Psychology, a variety of presenting concerns can be seen during the training year including personality disorders, grief and loss, trauma, refugee/immigrant support, and assessing psychosis. Birch Psychology prides itself on utilizing comprehensive and extensive assessments including projectives.
Adolescent Track (Drs Miller and Silberman)
This track is a training opportunity focused on children between the ages of six and sixteen. Modalities individual child therapy, family therapy, and potentially parent coaching. Presenting issues may range from generalized anxiety and depression to family systems issues, as well as neurodivergence. Both therapy and assessment services are a component of the training. Birch Psychology prides itself on utilizing comprehensive and extensive assessments including projectives.
Lifespan/Generalist Track (Drs. Larson-Konar, Spear, Spears and Kromrey)
Modalities include play therapy, individual child therapy, individual adult therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, and potentially parent coaching. Presenting issues will be diverse and may range from generalized anxiety and depression to family systems issues, as well as neurodivergence. Both therapy and assessment services are a component of the training. Birch Psychology prides itself on utilizing comprehensive and extensive assessments including projective testing.

Dr. Paul Blimling
Dr. Paul Blimling is a clinical psychologist who works with adolescents and adults. Supervision is exclusively focused on individual therapy and supervisees should have a working knowledge of foundational psychodynamic concepts. Dr. Blimling utilizes evidence-based approaches, including psychodynamic, interpersonal, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) techniques.
Dr. Blimling helps individuals dealing with a wide variety of concerns, including stress, grief and loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, mild to moderate substance abuse, life transitions, adjustment issues, and relationship problems. He is also skilled in the areas of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder, and severe and persistent mental health disorders.
Dr. Maya Badwan
Dr. Maya Badwan is a clinical psychologist who works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Her clinical work includes psychological assessment with children and adults in addition to traditional psychotherapy with teens and adults. Dr. Badwan has an interest in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, family of origin issues, LGBTQ issues, cultural assimilation issues, trauma, and relationship problems. She utilizes insight-oriented traditional methods of therapy.
Dr. Badwan has trained in various clinical settings that have included schools, outpatient clinics, community mental health and private practice. The majority of her work has been with emerging adults and adults in the areas of relationship issues, depression, trauma, and life transitions.
Dr. Stephanie Miller
Dr. Stephanie Miller is a clinical psychologist who works primarily with children, adolescents, parents, and families. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in Maryland and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. She has had clinical experiences in a multitude of settings, including schools, hospitals, and private practice.
Dr. Miller specializes in anxiety, depression, life transitions and interpersonal relationships, suicidal ideation and self-harm, trauma, gifted profiles, and health psychology. She also engages in parent coaching and family therapy. Along with therapy, Dr. Miller also provides psychological assessments including learning, ADHD, and social/emotional assessments.
Dr. Miller approaches therapy from an integrative perspective, with particular emphasis on attachment theory, CBT, ACT, DBT, and relational models. She highly values collaboration and reflection in the supervision process, with particular emphasis on recognizing and building upon strengths, gaining confidence, and becoming increasingly independent in one’s clinical practice.
Dr. Stephanie Silberman
Dr. Stephanie Silberman is a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, parents, and families. Dr. Silberman has a breadth of experience working with individuals who struggle with difficulties such as depression, anxiety, trauma, school problems, behavioral problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, adjustment to life stressors, suicidal ideation, and self injury.
She is experienced in evidence-based approaches and utilizes cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, acceptance and commitment, and parent behavioral management strategies in her work with children and families. She also conducts psychological assessments to clarify diagnoses and to guide treatment.
Dr. Silberman received her Doctoral and Masters Degrees in Clinical Psychology at Kent State University. She also worked with individuals with chronic pain and medical conditions including patients at an Albany Medical Center primary care clinic.
Dr. Bridget Kromrey
Dr. Bridget Kromrey is a clinical psychologist who works with clients across the life span. She holds a masters degree in International Disaster Psychology from the University of Denver as well as a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver.
Dr. Kromrey specializes in death and dying, grief and loss, trauma, and health psychology. Along with therapy, Dr. Kromrey also provides psychological assessments including social/emotional, learning, ADHD, and autism assessments.
She approaches therapy from an integrative model but especially draws upon a depth psychology/ Jungian model of therapy, existential and humanistic theory, attachment theory, and ACT. She focuses on longer term and relational therapy models.
Dr. Shane Spears
Dr. Shane Spears is a clinical psychologist who works with clients across the life span. He holds a Masters and Doctoral Degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Spears specializes in life transitions, behavioral struggles, mood and anxiety symptoms, grief, trauma, and systems interventions. He also engages in parent coaching and family therapy. Dr. Spears also provides psychoeducational assessment services and consultation with community partners.
Dr. Spears uses a relational and strengths based lens in supervision focusing on connection, development, and collaboration. Dr. Spears is integrative in his approach to therapy and supervision, both in intentionally exploring and utilizing appropriate theory and intervention for each supervisee and client, as well as considering the individual and systems to which they belong.
Dr. Korrie Allen
Dr. Allen is a licensed clinical psychologist committed to working with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Allen is passionate about conducting comprehensive assessments that help clients find ways to achieve at their optimal potential. She provides evaluations such as early childhood/school readiness, autism spectrum disorder, school neuropsychological and ADHD, cognitive testing for school admissions, and social emotional skills. Her areas of expertise include attention deficit hyperactive disorder, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, memory and learning, school readiness, depression, and anxiety. She has experience evaluating for autism throughout the lifespan from early childhood to adulthood. She frequently works with individuals who have a complex or atypical presentation of autism. She believes that evaluations should help individuals understand themselves better and connect with the right supports and resources.
Dr. Rebecca Spear
Dr. Spear is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. She approaches therapy from a warm and relational framework and believes that therapy is about exploring patterns and looking within. These processes lead to heightened self-awareness and understanding, which break cycles and create lasting change. Dr. Spear is committed to making therapy a welcoming space for people of all identities and from all cultural backgrounds.
Dr. Spear has worked with individuals and families across the lifespan in a wide range of clinical settings and has particular interest and expertise in supporting people navigate relationship challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, parenting, family of origin concerns, identity development, and complex trauma. Dr. Spear practices from an attachment-focused and psychodynamic framework.
Dr. Dylan Larson-Konar
Dr. Larson-Konar has experience working with adults, adolescents, and children in various settings, such as college counseling centers, outpatient mental health clinics, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals. His approach relies on the warmth, authenticity, and power of the therapeutic relationship to help his clients construct more meaningful and empowering lives. Dr. Larson-Konar integrates various theories and therapies, including existential/humanistic theories, feminist theories, cognitive-behavioral theories, and mindfulness. He also strongly believes that to affirm and draw forth the richness and depth of his clients’ overlapping cultural identities, he must acknowledge and take accountability for his own and for existing political and historical power structures that can be both privileging and oppressive.
Dr. Ous Badwan
Dr. Badwan is a systems/relationally focused clinician working across the age space. He holds a Masters degree in marriage and family therapy, as well as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a specialty in early childhood and infant mental health. Dr. Badwan primarily supervises post-docs at Birch Psychology. He conducts individual therapy (child and adult), play therapy, dyadic therapy (e.g., PCIT). With respect to assessment, Dr. Badwan conducts formal psycho-educational evaluations, as well as personality assessments that integrate projective measures such as the Rorschach and Wartegg).
