Consultations at Birch Psychology

Consultations are an opportunity to gain insight and expertise on topics ranging from diagnostics, treatment recommendations, family transitions, development, sudden loss, and grief therapy.

Mental health consulting may span from one to several appointments. They also serve to obtain the treatment or assessment recommendations of a psychologist.

Parenting Consultation

At Birch Psychology, our specialists provide parent consultation for caregivers whose children are engaged in individual and/or family therapy, as well as for parents seeking guidance around specific developmental or parenting questions. For families whose children are not in therapy, we also offer independent parent consultation. Parenting consultation focuses on understanding behavior, development, strengthening the parent–child relationship, and building practical skills, and can support families from early childhood through adolescence. Families undergoing transition can also utilize consultation based services to help navigate upcoming conversations and how to prepare their children for any adjustments.

Diagnostic & Treatment Planning Consultations

Are you unsure what type of support you, your family, or members of your family may need? Our psychologist meets with you to identify the psychology or therapy needs that you should prioritize.

This service is comprised of at least one appointment, but may require several sessions to determine the services that benefit you, including further assessment or ideal treatment.

An abbreviated version of these treatment planning consultations is provided for complex cases that cannot be directly assigned to a therapist. Directors at the practice provide this level of service as a thirty minute appointment followed with treatment recommendations (within or outside of the practice depending on needs).

Please note: Consultations such as this are not a replacement for more formal diagnostic processes that are a component of psychological assessments and/or ongoing psychotherapy services.
