Dr. Annie Saurber is a post-doctoral fellow at Birch pursuing her license as a psychologist who works primarily with adults and older adolescents. She has a breadth of experience working with adults who struggle with difficulties such as depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment to life stressors, addiction, ADHD, grief & loss, suicidal ideation, self-injury, and complex medical problems. Dr. Saurberspecializes in implementing evidence-based practices and utilizes cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, acceptance and commitment, and transdiagnostic interventions. She also conducts comprehensive psychological assessments to clarify diagnoses and to guide treatment.

Dr. Saurber received her Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology at Saint Louis University. Most recently, Dr. Saurber completed her pre-doctoral internship in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine through the Departments of Psychiatry and Family Medicine. As an intern, her training emphasized assessing complex and persistent psychiatric and medical presentations such as severe addictions, cognitive decline, PTSD, ADHD, adult autism evaluation, medical trauma, and organ transplant recipients and donors. During internship, she also received specialized training working as a consultant for the University of Colorado Hospital inpatient medical units, including the Burn and Frostbite Unit, where she provided psychological intervention, stabilization, and assessment.

Dr. Saurber’s approach to treatment is trauma-informed with the understanding that each client may have experienced trauma(s), which can come in many forms. She also utilizes a bio-psycho-social integrative approach to her work, both in assessment and therapy. Dr. Saurber will devote a portion of her early sessions to understanding each client's contextual elements, which include symptoms, health behaviors, developmental issues, cultural influences, learning styles, strengths, values, and personal preferences. Ultimately, Dr. Saurber approaches her work with warmth, authenticity, openness, and curiosity believing strongly in a strengths-based approach that helps clients to identify and understand patterns to facilitate a more genuine, meaningful, and connected life.
