Dr. Brianna (“Bri”) Duval is a licensed clinical psychologist who works across the age span. She specializes in the treatment of interpersonal and developmental trauma, with additional focus on grief and loss, relational and attachment challenges, mood disorders, life transitions, and existential concerns.
Dr. Duval has provided psychotherapy and assessment services across a range of clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatry, emergency services, partial hospitalization, community mental health clinics, and outpatient therapy in both private and nonprofit organizations.
She supported children and families through bereavement care and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) at Boston Medical Center. She also delivered short-term intensive interventions to adults experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms at McLean Hospital’s Partial Hospital Program. Dr. Duval completed her predoctoral internship at Denver Health Medical Center, gaining experience with complex, co-morbid presentations and providing collaborative treatment within interdisciplinary teams. Her postdoctoral fellowship at Reaching HOPE emphasized treatment of PTSD and complex PTSD with adults and families.
Dr. Duval’s therapeutic approach combines insight with practical strategies. She draws on humanistic, psychodynamic, and attachment-based frameworks to help clients explore how early experiences and unconscious dynamics may shape current patterns. She integrates cognitive-behavioral strategies to support skill-building and behavior change, while utilizing mindfulness and somatic techniques to increase awareness of internal states and regulate the nervous system. She completed EMDRIA-approved Basic Training and incorporates EMDR into her work when appropriate.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Duval has provided consultation to government organizations and participated in international mental health efforts related to trauma recovery, refugee mental health, and gender-based violence prevention. She has developed and facilitated workshops on conflict resolution, burnout prevention, and mental health education, and has collaborated with community-led organizations to create psychosocial resources and expand access to care in under-resourced settings. Dr. Duval’s research has focused on understanding the experiences and psychological support needs of suicide loss survivors.
Dr. Duval is available for in-person and telehealth appointments in Colorado. She is also an authorized PsyPACT provider and offers teletherapy to clients in participating states. She can be reached at bri.duval@birchpsychology.com and 303.834.1026 ext. 19
