Dr. Maria Canyon is a clinical psychologist who provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Canyon believes in collaborating with each individual and family to create a therapeutic space that allows for authentic expression and deep reflection. Her approach to psychotherapy places emphasis on the quality of the therapeutic relationship, helping individuals gain insight into patterns, address difficult dynamics, and develop more balanced relationships with themselves and others. Dr. Canyon believes in creating an environment in which individuals can explore all aspects of themselves. She is dedicated to addressing both the root cause and the symptoms that each individual experiences. Her areas of clinical focus include early attachment, anxiety, depression, interpersonal/relationship concerns, body image, trauma, and life transitions.

Dr. Canyon provides cognitive, learning, social and emotional psychological assessments for individuals across the lifespan. She also has experience providing pre-surgical evaluations for individuals preparing to undergo kidney transplant and cleft and craniofacial procedures. Her approach to assessment highlights the strengths of an individual while creating thorough recommendations for areas of additional support to improve functioning, development, and interpersonal relationships.

She has training in medical, academic, and community settings in rural and metropolitan areas. The diversity of Dr. Canyon’s experience allows her to integrate a variety of tools into her practice, creating personalized assessment and treatment. In particular, she has specialized training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, sexual and reproductive health, multiculturalism, psychosocial oncology, chronic pain and illness, pediatric psychology, neurodevelopment, parent-child dyadic therapy, and work with LGBTQ+ populations. Dr. Canyon has a special interest in the creative arts and can integrate work involving the creative process into therapy with people of all ages.
