Dr. Paul Blimling is a licensed clinical psychologist who works primarily with adults and older adolescents utilizing evidence-based approaches, including psychodynamic, interpersonal, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) techniques.

Dr. Blimling helps individuals dealing with a wide variety of concerns, including stress, grief and loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, mild to moderate substance abuse, life transitions, adjustment issues, and relationship problems. He is also skilled in the areas of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder, and severe and persistent mental health disorders.  Dr. Blimling has a specialization in group therapy, previously the recipient of an endowed scholarship from the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and is a facilitator of the High School Process Group at Birch.

Dr. Blimling approaches his work with warmth, authenticity, and openness; he believes strongly in a strengths-based approach that helps clients to identify and understand patterns to facilitate a more genuine, meaningful, and connected life. He is an LGBTQ+ ally and seeks to support all people in their unique identities and to encourage authenticity and self-actualization.

Dr. Blimling has extensive experience working in academic medical centers and hospitals, previously holding the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Albany Medical College/Medical Center in Albany, NY. While at Albany Med, he developed models for the use of music in psychotherapy, provided psychological services to a diverse community, gave lectures, and supervised trainee clinicians. Dr. Blimling earned his Doctor of Psychology degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he also completed his undergraduate work. His research and clinical experience span more than a decade.

Dr. Blimling is a classically trained cellist and lifelong musician, most recently the principal cellist in the Aurora Symphony Orchestra, which has greatly influenced his interests in the psychology of music and its benefits within and outside of psychotherapy.  When not working with clients or playing his cello, Dr. Blimling enjoys spending time with family, collecting vinyl records, and hiking with his rescue dog, Maisie.

Dr. Blimling is an authorized PsyPact provider and works remotely with clients in many states. He is available for speaking engagements and consultation and can be reached at:
